All lanes on I-85 southbound in Macon County now open

A bridge widening project on I-85 in Macon County is ahead of schedule.

The Alabama Department of Transportation tells Action 8 News that all lanes on I-85 southbound at Line Creek are now open.

Crews began work on the southbound lanes on November 3 expecting it to take 18 days to complete.

ALDOT says the contractor had multiple crews working around the clock to open all lanes about a week ahead of schedule.

Officials say the project remains active and intermittent lane closures will likely occur during the evening hours until the project is complete.
