Former Selma High band director facing felony sex charges

A former Selma High band director — has been indicted and arrested — on felony sex charges involving a student.

Twenty-seven year old Dante Wright is charged with school employee having sexual contact with a student — and sexual abuse first-degree.

“December 2nd of 2023 officers responded to Selma High in reference to alleged sexual assault. After a thorough investigation officers discovered that it occurred in November. The former band director Dante Wright was arrested,” said Selma Police Chief Kenta Fulford.

“When parents send their kids to school, they send them there to learn. Not to be abused,” said Dallas Co. Sheriff Mike Granthum.

The investigation lead to a grand jury indictment. And a warrant was issued for Wright’s arrest.

“The grand jury saw fit that this subject needed to be charged. And that’s what we did. And the DA’s office is handling it, and they’re going to prosecute him to the fullest,” said Granthum.

Wright is free after posting a $21,000 dollar bond.
