Gees Bend community offers ferry rides and colorful quilts

If you like history — and you like the great outdoors — there’s a place in Wilcox County — you’ll want to check out.

The Gees Bend community — is a great place to take in the natural beauty of Alabama — and learn about a colorful piece of the state’s history.

Residents are renowned for their quilt-making. And the community is also home to a ferry that carries vehicles across the Alabama River.

“Great ride. Not bumpy at all,” said John Mitchell.

“I would put this on your Top 10 if not 5 list to come and see.”

“This is like so exciting to me cause it was beautiful,” said Faye Mitchell.

“It was calm. It was just a perfect afternoon I thought.”
