Montgomery County school board names president, vice president

The Montgomery County Board of Education has announced that a president and vice president have been chosen for the school board.

The school board elected Arica Watkins-Smith as president and Pamela Portis as vice president at its annual meeting on  Tuesday.

Smith has served on the board since 2018.

“It is an honor to serve as President of the Montgomery County Board of Education,” Smith said. “I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues, our educators, and the broader community to ensure every student in Montgomery County has access to a world-class education.”

Pamela Portis has been a member of the board since 2022.

“I am humbled and excited to have the trust of the board members to advance this important work,” Portis said. “Together, we will continue to advocate for the needs of all students, families, and educators.”
