Montgomery’s Salvation Army kicks off annual Red Kettle Campaign

Montgomery’s Salvation Army has launched its 2024 Red Kettle Campaign for the Christmas season.

The kickoff was held at the Shoppes at EastChase with Action 8’s Teresa Lawson as emcee and entertainment from the JAG High School drum line.

A ribbon dropping was performed to signify the kettle kickoff followed by those in attendance giving their first donations.

In the Montgomery area, the Salvation Army has about 35 kettle locations.

Right now, it’s sending out about 25 people a day to ring the bells, so volunteer bell ringers are needed.

“This kettle kickoff is very enthusiastic and it brings about some excitement,” commander officer Thomas Johnson said. “We have to stop and think about those that are in our community that need us the most, so we have just launched this campaign that meets the needs of those right here in the River Region.”

The Salvation Army says even though it doesn’t have its shelter any more, it’s still providing people with housing assistance to those in need. Johnson says hundreds of people are still coming through the doors to receive food through the food pantry.
