Suspect arrested, contraband recovered at Staton Prison in Elmore County
A woman has been arrested and contraband has been recovered at Staton Prison in Elmore County, according to state prison officials.
The Alabama Department of Corrections says on Saturday, November 30, workers at the prison spotted a suspicious vehicle, which crashed through a gate. They say the driver then drove off.
ADOC K-9 agents found the vehicle in Prattville, where two female occupants were detained.
Prison officials say Heather Young was arrested and taken to the Elmore County Jail, where she was charged with promoting prison contraband, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and criminal mischief.
Investigators say a package containing contraband was discovered stuck in the perimeter fence at the prison.
The Alabama Department of Corrections Law Enforcement Services Division investigation is ongoing and further charges may be pending, investigators say.
