Dallas Co. School District will soon need a new superintendent
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
Dallas County Schools Superintendent Anthony Sampson has asked the school board not to renew his contract at the end of the school year.
Sampson informed the school board that this school year will be his last leading the district.
“I gave the board that notice so that they had adequate time to make the appropriate decisions to put a new leader in place upon my departure. So, that students had a fighting chance for future success,” Sampson said.
“I was brought in to make an impact, to make a change. That’s what we’ve done.”
Sampson says the district is headed in the right direction — based on the accountability scores. And the only school not trending upward — is the one he recommended that the school board shut down.
“My role as superintendent is to make sometimes unpopular recommendations, from an academic lens. I look at an academic lens that is my expertise. And if I know that a school doesn’t have the right staffing, it is my duty to make that recommendation. And I did that.
Sampson’s contract runs through June 30th.
The Dallas County School District has 13 schools — and serves about 3000 students.
