Marion Military Institute expands its First Responder Program
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
A program at Marion Military Institute is providing specialized training to make emergency first responder — a career-ready option for cadets.
The First Responder Program at Marion Military Institute offers a flexible pathway for cadets to earn fire — emergency medical service — or law enforcement certifications.
The program uses a state of the art law enforcement training simulator — that trains students how to respond to various scenarios — using live video.
“We have scenarios in here where they do pit maneuvers. They have to follow cars, chase them down. Pit them off the road. So, it has a lot of different scenarios that test the student.,” said Col. Ed Passmore.
Fire cadets join Marion Fire and Rescue — attend training — and respond to calls in Marion and Perry County. This helps to provide a critical service to the community — and on-the-job experience for cadets.
And the emergency medical service program — centers around E-M-T basic certification.
The program continues to expand since its development in 2015.
A new Fire Training Tower set to open — and will also be getting a new fire truck in 20-25.
