Historic church hands out gift cards at Selma elementary school

A historic church in Selma hands out gift cards to students at a nearby elementary school.

Officials at Brown Chapel AME Church donated $25 gift cards to each and every student at Clark Elementary School Monday morning.

Waka Giftcards1216 VoPastor Leodis Strong says the historic church has adopted the school — and the GWC community where the school is located.

He says the gift-card giveaway is a practical way for the church to connect with families.

Mario Edwards’ son attends Clark Elementary.

“Well, I think it’s nice cause that’s why I’m here. Like, any little thing will help,” he said.

“I was not going to come at first, so I’m not even going to lie. But I thought about it like, yeah we’re dealing with a lot and that’s very nice of them. So why don’t I just get up and go down there and show my appreciation.”

Strong says the church is working to positively impact the future of the community — by investing in the lives of its children.
