Funeral arrangements announced for AU chaplain Rev. Chette Williams

Funeral arrangements have been announced for longtime Auburn University team chaplain and former Tigers linebacker Rev. Chette Williams.

Auburn University officials say a a public visitation will take place at noon Saturday at Lakeview Baptist Church in Auburn. A service will be held immediately after at 1 p.m.

Auburn University is also planning a memorial service on campus. The service will take place Thursday, January 23, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Neville Arena.

61-year-old Rev. Chette Williams died Sunday in a boating accident near Kowaliga Restaurant on Lake Martin.

Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin tells Action 8 News that Williams and a friend stopped by boat at the restaurant for dinner. When they found out that the restaurant was closed for a private event, Williams tried to get back into the boat and accidentally fell into the water.

ALEA’s Marine Patrol Division is investigating the incident.
