Flatwood residents celebrate first Christmas in new community center
Folks in part of Montgomery County are celebrating Christmas in a whole new place.
People in the Flatwood community in north Montgomery County had their annual Christmas Lunch in their new community center today.
This is the first Christmas in the new center, which opened in September.
You may remember that an EF-2 tornado destroyed the old center in 2022 and killed an 8-year-old boy and his mother nearby.
This luncheon featured food and music from Carver Elementary School students.

As the song says every year at this time it’s Christmas so we all get together at this time of the year and it’s always on the third Thursday of December so this is what we do it was just so happy and excited to be back in our center,” Flatwood administrator Chenita Stanley said.
“If it’s something easy something you know how to do come and volunteer help these ladies out we don’t have all Flatwood in here anymore but we have some other ladies in here and they are very very nice,” Sharon Nettles of Flatwood Reflections said.
Montgomery County Commissioner Isaiah Sankey and others have worked for years to get the community center rebuilt after the tornado. Sankey says the next step is to build a tornado shelter behind the center.
