Perry Co. PREP Center program provides 2nd chance opportunities
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
A program in Perry County is changing lives — by providing people with a way to overcome the mistakes of their past.
Everyone deserves a second chance.
And that’s exactly what participants get — at the PREP Rehabilitation Center — near Uniontown.
The facility provides drug and mental health treatment — in addition to GED and job readiness training.
Sixty-one men are set to reenter society — after graduating from the program — Friday morning.
Cam Ward is the Director of the Alabama Bureau of Pardons & Paroles.
“This is a mission we started two years ago. We’ve graduated close to 300 people coming back into society, formerly incarcerated,” he said.
“We try to provide opportunities and alleviate some of the hurdles that the formerly incarcerated face when reentering the workforce,” said State Senator Robert Stewart.
The Perry County PREP Center only serves male probationers and parolees.
A PREP Center for women is located in Thomasville.
