Montgomery man charged with identity theft and theft of property
Auburn police say a Montgomery man is in custody charged with identity theft and theft of property first degree.
Authorities say on Christmas Eve, with the assistance of the Trussville Police Department and the Alabama State Troopers, 31-year-old Calvin Earl McDonald, Jr. was arrested after Auburn police received a report that originated in Trussville regarding a mailed business check that was stolen while in transit and altered.
Trussville police initiated an investigation and determined that in February 2024, the check was deposited at a bank in Auburn. McDonald Jr. was identified as the suspect that deposited the forged check.
After further investigation, Auburn police obtained arrest warrants for identity theft and theft of property first degree.
McDonald was located by Alabama State Troopers and taken into custody.
McDonald was booked into the Lee County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
