Capri Theatre Director Martin McCaffery looks toward retirement at end of 2025
Capri Theatre Director Martin McCaffery has led this historic Montgomery landmark for 40 years, but 2025 will be his final year before retirement.
McCaffery began at the Capri in November of 1985, when he was in his late 20s. He tells Action 8 News that he thought he’d only spend about two years working at the theater.
Now decades later, he says he’s proud of the work he has done and hopes that whomever takes his place will continue that work — all with the support of the community.
“I’m grateful for all of the support we’ve gotten. We’ve used that support to support other movie theaters in Alabama and around the country, and they’ve helped us. So it’s a really wonderful community here, and within the business, and I’m proud to have been part of it,” McCaffery said.
The Capri is a nonprofit theater, which relies on donations, grants and memberships. It opened at the Clover Theatre in 1941 and is the longest continually-operating theatre in Alabama. It became the Capri in 1962.
