City of Tuskegee gets $50,000 donation
The city of Tuskegee is getting a $50,000 donation from a South Korean-based company.
Samkee Corporation has a location in Tuskegee that opened last year. It’s the company’s first U.S. facility that employs more than 170 people.
Company officials presented Tuskegee Mayor Tony Haygood with the check this morning. The mayor says the money will support the food pantry and help people with their utility bills.
He says he’s thankful.
“Samkee, they are a great addition to our community,” Haygood told Action 8 News. “I think because they have come here and they’ve been successful, it has encouraged others and made them aware that we are ready. We are open for business and we want to be a good partner in the River Region.”
“Our corporate slogan is ‘Casting the Future,’ and I want to cast the future with all the citizens and community people in Tuskegee, so please come join us,” Samkee CEO Chihwan Kim said.
Samkee’s $128 million plant makes automobile parts. It made 600,000 units last year and has plans to make 1.6 million units this year.
