Alabama State comes up short against Alabama A&M
The Alabama State University women’s basketball team fell 54-47 to the Alabama A&M University at the AMMU Event Center on Saturday.
Kaitlyn Bryant led the Hornets (4-13, 2-3) with 11 points. Cordasia Harris also added seven points and eight rebounds and Taylor Smith chipped in as well with three points.
Alabama State out-rebounded Alabama A&M 39-38 in Saturday’s game, led by Harris’ eight boards. The Hornets also grabbed 15 offensive rebounds and scored 12 second chance points.
Alabama State’s defense held Alabama A&M to only 33.3 percent shooting from the field, including 23.5 percent from beyond the arc. The Hornets also limited Mailyn Wilkerson to 3-of-15 shooting and nine points in the game.
How It Happened
Alabama State kept it close in the first quarter, but entered the second frame down 10-9.
The Hornets continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 20-17 halftime deficit.
Alabama State started to cut into the deficit after halftime, bringing it to 34-32 by the end of the third quarter. Alabama State played well near the basket, scoring eight of its 15 points in the paint.
Alabama State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 54-47. Alabama State took advantage of three Alabama A&M turnovers in the quarter, scoring four points off of those takeaways.
