Bitter cold due to arctic air this week, accumulating snow Tuesday

Cold air arrived in Alabama Sunday, with temperatures falling throughout the day. That trend continues Sunday night. Low temperatures could be as cold as the upper teens to low 20s Monday morning. However, wind chill values could be even lower, between 5 and 15°. Monday remains cold despite a mainly sunny sky. High temperatures range from the mid to upper 30s, with wind chills in the 20s.

Monday night could be very cold, with lows potentially in the upper teens. However, clouds increase Monday night, which may keep temperatures in the 20s. Although, they remain in the 20s as snow likely arrives in our area Tuesday morning. With near or below freezing temperatures, snow may begin accumulating on roads right away. Snow totals of 1-3″ across our area may cause difficult or dangerous travel conditions.

Snow becomes more widespread during the day. Snow totals look higher south, and lower north. The could be a sharp cutoff on the northern edge of the snow, where some of our northern communities see very little snow. Snow departs Tuesday night. The sky clears, allowing temperatures to fall into the mid to upper teens Wednesday morning. Ice may cover many if not most roads in our area early Wednesday.

Temperatures may warm above freezing with sunshine Wednesday, but fall below freezing Wednesday nice. Ice could very well be on roads Thursday morning too. Temperatures may warm closer to 50° Thursday and Friday, but temperatures still fall below freezing Thursday and Friday night. Temperatures trend milder this weekend, with highs in the mid 50s Saturday, and upper 50s Sunday.
