Snowfall Likely Tuesday Into Tuesday Night
Arctic air is in place and now we’re just waiting on the precipitation to arrive. That will happen Tuesday but in the meantime, we continue to deal with the cold temps. The winds are making it feel even colder as wind chills will range from the teens to lower 20s overnight.  We expect them to drop even further Wednesday morning. Actual temps will start out in the teens but wind chills will hover in the single digits. That’s bitter cold and precautions should be taken to avoid frostbite.
Now, as for as the snow impacts, we expect an area of low pressure to transport gulf moisture into our very cold air mass. The column of air will be cold enough from the surface and aloft to produce snow. The moisture will be more plentiful along the Florida Panhandle and South Alabama. The higher snowfall will be over those areas south with much smaller accumulations north of the 80/I85 corridor. The higher impacts will be south but even light snow accumulations north can lead to difficult travel conditions. Snow covered roadways and bridges may become slippery and navigating them impossible. The snowfall is expected to end by 10pm Tuesday but what has fallen will be sticking around through the night and part of Wednesday. Whether you’re in the winter storm warning area or winter weather advisory area, extreme caution should be taken if you must travel Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday. Sunshine returns and temps will climb above freezing Wednesday. That will begin the melting process and improve conditions in spots. There will continue to problem spots Wednesday night, especially in those areas receiving higher snowfall totals.
We begin to slowly make our way out of this Arctic air mass during the latter half of the week. Mainly sunny skies and temps climbing into the 40s for highs will help thaw us out. Overnight temps will still be cold and down in the 20s.  There will be a more significant warmup late in the weekend and heading into early next week. Rain will be back in the forecast but temps will warm into the mid 60s for highs.
