Man arrested after assault at Opelika gas station

Opelika police have made an arrest in an assault at a gas station.

Police say a 39-year-old man was assaulted at the Valero at 823 Crawford Road at around 4:00 this afternoon. Police say the man had cuts on the face and neck. He was flown to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for treatment.

Police say the suspect, 50-year-old Derick Lamont Johnson of Opelika was found in Hickory Haven Trailer Park behind the gas station. He has been charged with assault in the first degree.
