Man pleads guilty to stealing nearly $250,000 from Montgomery County Commission
Attorney General Steve Marshall has announced that a local political consultant has pleaded guilty to stealing money from the Montgomery County Commission that was supposed to go to charity.
Marshall said Frank Lewis Brown has pleaded guilty to one count of theft in the first degree.
Marshall said Brown stole funds meant to go to a charity to help women and children suffering from substance abuse and addiction. Marshall said Brown was a board member of the charity, which went defunct around 2017.
But Marshall said after that, Brown still obtained $50,000 per year from the Montgomery County Commission for the charity between 2018 and 2023, totaling $350,000. Brown pocketed $246,670, more than two-thirds of that money, according to Marshall.
“Stealing from a non-profit is a despicable betrayal of public trust. Instead of using these funds to help those suffering from addiction, Frank Lewis Brown chose to line his own pockets. This kind of corruption will not be tolerated, and my office will continue to hold accountable those who exploit charitable causes for personal gain.”
