Supporters of Jackson Hospital hold rally as financial restructuring continues

A rally in support of Jackson Hospital’s financial restructuring has been held, which included staff, community partners and patients.

The rally was held this morning outside of the hospital’s main entrance.

As Action 8 News has reported, the hospital missed an interest payment last September, which caused its bond rating to be lowered. In November, it announced leadership changes.

Since then, the hospital has been working to improve the hospital’s financial position. The hospital says those efforts have included discussions with Montgomery County commissioners, Montgomery City Council, bondholders and lenders.

On January 7, Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed issued a letter of credit support to Jackson Hospital & Clinic to secure future financing from bondholders.

Members of Montgomery City Council are scheduled to vote tomorrow on further support for the hospital.

“We’re asking for the city council to consider providing us a guarantee on a loan that we need to take in order to keep going until a final solution is made which will be a permanent funding re-organization,” interim CEO Ron Dreskin said.

“I thank the city for their efforts because they really stepped up in the sense of they’ve met with us on numerous occasions, they want to understand what it means. We’ve been through financial information with the city so they have taken the time to not just go ahead and say here’s a blank check, they really understand what I understand, what they’re doing here for the community and the city, so I’m I’m hopeful that will have a positive outcome from a vote tomorrow night,” Allen Wilen, the chief restructuring officer, said.

Jackson Hospital & Clinic facilities remain open and operating as usual, according to hospital leaders.
