From the West Alabama Newsroom–
Governor Kay Ivey made a history-making appointment for district attorney of the 17th Judicial Circuit — representing Marengo — Greene — and Sumter counties.
Demopolis native Rachel England is now the youngest serving DA — as well as the youngest female DA ever — in the state of Alabama.
Governor Ivey appointed England to fulfil the term of the previous DA who was elected circuit judge in the last election.
England says public safety — and seeking justice for crime victims — will remain top priorities during her tenure.
“Everything I do in the courtroom you know, it’s not for me. I’m not the focus of it. That is my victim or my victim’s survivor, the mama whoever, they are my focus. That’s who I am going to help and to speak up for,” England said.
England is also the first female to ever hold the position of district attorney in the 17th judicial circuit.
She’s is a graduate of the University of Alabama — School of Law.
