Gov. Kay Ivey has appointed a new sheriff for Butler County, following the retirement of Sheriff Danny Bond.

Ivey has named David Scruggs as sheriff. He had been chief deputy for the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff Scruggs thanked Bond for his support and recommendation to Governor Ivey and the many supporters who submitted letters on his behalf. He also thanked his family and coworkers for their encouragement and support.

As Action 8 News has reported, Bond retired at the end of January after first being elected in 2008.

Sheriff Scruggs plans to continue the work of Sheriff Bond and says he looks forward to serving its citizens.
