Opelika man stabbed to death, roommate in custody

An Opelika man has died from being stabbed and deputies say his roommate has been charged in his death.

The incident happened early Sunday morning around 2:34 a.m. in the 900 block of Lee Road 147 in Beauregard.

Once deputies arrived, they found 41-year-old Cory Vernon Rogers dead inside the home with what appeared to be multiple stab wounds in his chest, side and back area.

34-year-old Daniel Ray Metcalf, also of Opelika, was taken into custody on the scene by deputies where they say he admitted to stabbing Rogers.

Witnesses at the scene stated that the two men were in a verbal argument when they started physically fighting, leading to Metcalf pulling a knife and stabbing the victim.

Metcalf was transported to the Lee County Detention Center and charged with Murder. He is being held with no bond.
