Man charged with enticing a child for immoral purposes in Andalusia
Andalusia police say a man has been arrested and charged with enticing a child for immoral purposes.
Police say the man is an 18-year-old from Elba. His name hasn’t been released.
Police say they got a call on February 8 of a suspicious vehicle parked at Robinson Park. When officers arrived, they say the vehicle’s windows were fogged and the driver’s seat was pushed as far forward as possible. They say the man got out of the vehicle, but a 14-year-old female was discovered in the backseat wearing only undergarments.
Police say the two had driven to Andalusia from Elba and the girl’s parents thought she was out with a group of girls.
Andalusia Police Sgt. Al McGraw said the charges against the man are a Class C felony, which can carry prison time. If found guilty, the 18-year-old will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
McGraw said in Alabama, the age of consent is 16. However, he said there cannot be more than two years’ difference in the ages of the parties, to the day.
The man’s identity is not being released because he might qualify for youthful offender status, police say.
