From the West Alabama Newsroom–
The 33rd Annual Bridge Crossing Jubilee is two weeks away.
This year celebrates the 60th anniversary of Bloody Sunday — the Selma to Montgomery March — and the passage of the Voting Rights Act.
Jubilee organizers provided updates about the event — and announced some of the confirmed and invited guests — at a press conference Thursday morning.
Some confirmed guests include — U.S. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries — and U.S. Representatives Jim Clyburn, Jasmine Crockett and Maxine Waters.
The governors of Kentucky — Maryland — Illinois — Michigan — and California — have all been invited to attend as special guests.
Organizers also announced a major change — to the annual Unity Breakfast.
“March 9th, 2025, we will have our annual Martin and Coretta King Unity Breakfast. This year however, it will be at Hangar 251 at Craig Field Airport. And we’re having that there because we’re expecting a larger crowd,” said WCCS President Dr. James Mitchell.
The Bridge Crossing Jubilee is the largest annual civil rights celebration in the country.
This year the event runs from March 6th thru 9th.
