Montgomery Housing Authority breaks ground for new homes at Columbus Square
The Montgomery Housing Authority has broken ground for 60 new housing units at Columbus Square downtown.
This is the third phase at Columbus Square, which is on North Bainbridge Street. It will have the same features as other public housing communities in the city.
City leaders say funding is coming through a tax credit from the Alabama Housing Finance Authority.
“Looking at public-private partnerships on a larger scale, we can reimagine what we think of when it comes to affordable housing and workforce housing,” Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed told Action 8 News. “It’s not what you think. If you have a vision of what it was 25 years ago, it’s changing, and we want to be a part of that positive change so that it can be more accessible to residents and those who we want to call Montgomery home.”
The project is expected to be finished next year.
