Colder Saturday night and Sunday, rain and storms Tuesday night

Saturday’s weather was pleasant across central and south Alabama. However, the combination of prior dry conditions, low humidity, and brisk northwest winds resulted in a fire weather warning. Winds remain out of the north to northwest at 5 to 10 mph Saturday night. Temperatures also turn colder, with lows in the mid to upper 30s. Wind chills could be in the low 30s early Sunday morning.

Sunday remains considerably cooler than Saturday, with high temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s despite a mostly sunny sky. Sunday night lows could fall into the 30s again. Temperatures trend warmer Monday and Tuesday despite increasing clouds. Rain and storms still look likely Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Some storms may become strong to severe.

The storm prediction center places our area within the equivalent of a slight (level 2/5) severe risk. Tuesday night’s storms may be capable of damaging wind gusts or tornadoes. Be weather aware Tuesday night, and stay tuned for updates to our forecast in the coming days. Wednesday looks drier, cooler, and breezy after a cold front sweeps through Alabama.

The rest of next week now looks mainly dry, with a mix of sun and clouds Thursday and Friday. Temperatures warm into the mid 60s Thursday, and low 70s Friday. Another round of rain appears possible next weekend, late Saturday into Sunday.
