Showers, storms Sunday night; Drier with sunshine early this week
Sunday was a gloomy and stormy day across central and south Alabama. Showers and storms were scattered about throughout the day and into the evening. A few stronger storms produced some small hail in our area. Showers and some storms continue Sunday evening, with at least rain continuing through Sunday night. Otherwise, the sky remains mainly cloudy with northeast winds of 5 to 10 mph and lows near 50°.
Monday morning remains mainly cloudy with lingering showers. However, the afternoon trends drier with some sunshine. Temperatures warm into the 60s. Monday night turns cooler with lows near 40°. Tuesday and Wednesday look like nice, spring-like days. High temperatures range from the mid to upper 70s. Showers and perhaps storms appear possible Thursday. Friday looks mainly dry and warm, with highs in the low 80s.
Another round of showers and storms looks likely next weekend. It appears that most of the rain times out for Saturday into Saturday night. The storm prediction center is already keeping an eye on next weekend’s storm system. Currently, a 15% severe probability, or slight (level 2/5) severe risk covers Alabama on Saturday, March 15th. At this time, all modes of severe weather, including tornadoes, damaging wind, and hail, appear possible.
It looks like rain and storms depart early Sunday morning, with drier weather later in the day. That dry weather may continue through Wednesday next week. Temperatures turn a bit cooler Monday, with highs in the low 70s. However, high temperatures return to the low 80s Wednesday.
