The Montgomery County school board has announced that the search for a new school superintendent has been narrowed down to two candidates.

These are the two candidates who are still in the running:

Dr. Harold Wright – Deputy Superintendent of Achievement and Leadership at Crowley Independent School District in Fort Worth, Texas
Dr. Zickeyous Byrd – Former Superintendent, Selma City Public Schools, Alabama

They remain from the original list of six candidates that had been announced late last month.

The school board will conduct another round of interviews on Monday, March 25, and Tuesday, March 26, at the Montgomery Public Schools Leadership Center.

“We have engaged with passionate and accomplished individuals, each bringing their own unique perspectives and experiences through thoughtful interviews, meaningful discussions and careful consideration,” Arica Watkins-Smith, the president of the school board, told Action 8 News.  “We have examined the qualities and vision that each candidate offered as we move forward. We do so with the gratitude for the dedication of the board of education for the support and engagement of our community, and most importantly, for the students who inspire us every day.”

The superintendent’s position became open when Dr. Melvin Brown resigned last year.
