Dallas Co. trail ride shooting suspect arrested for attempted murder

A Selma man is arrested and charged in a shooting at a trail ride in Dallas County where six people were shot.

Waka Trailridefolo0312 Vo1 1Sheriff Mike Granthum says 18 year old Kanye Benjamin is being held without bond on six counts of attempted murder.

Benjamin was arrested after deputies executed an early morning search warrant at a house on the 2000 block of 2nd Avenue.

Benjamin is accused of opening fire at a crowded trail ride event about two weeks ago — and wounding six people.

Granthum says the AK-47 assault rifle used in the shooting — was recovered later — with assistance from Selma Police.

“We were looking for the weapon that was there. But the Selma P-D had some information and they were able to help us retrieve that weapon. This kid, he did feel remorse. When I say kid, he’s 18 years old, he’s still a kid. He made an adult decision,” said Granthum.

“You play stupid games, you gon’ win stupid prizes. You know, are you remorseful for what you’ve done. Or are you remorseful the law finally got you.”

Deputies found an assortment of drugs in the house during the raid, they arrested 48 year old Kelvin Green on multiple drug charges.

Green is free tonight — after posting a $46,000 dollar bail.
