Deatsville man arrested after incident involving state trooper on Interstate 85
A Deatsville man has been arrested after an incident involving a state trooper on Interstate 85 in Montgomery County.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said it all started around 11:16 this morning. ALEA said 35-year-old Richard Dean tried to illegally pass through a construction zone in the southbound lane on I-85 near Exit 16. A state trooper assigned to work traffic control in the construction zone tried to stop Dean, but Dean tried to elude the trooper, ALEA said.
Dean’s vehicle crossed over into the northbound lane of I-85 and hit another vehicle before Dean tried to run away, according to ALEA.
During the incident, the state trooper fired his gun, but Dean was not hit. Dean was checked by medical personnel on the scene and the state trooper was taken to Baptist Medical Center East for evaluation.
Dean was arrested and charged with felony attempting to elude. He is being held in the Montgomery County Detention Center on a $30,000 bond.
All lanes of I-85 were closed during the incident but have reopened.
