Severe storms possible Friday night, likely Saturday afternoon/night
Friday’s weather looks relatively quiet through sunset. The sky remains partly to mostly cloudy with temperatures warming into the upper 70s to low 80s. A risk for strong to severe storms may develop late Friday evening through early Saturday morning. The greatest risk lies across west Alabama, with a very low to zero risk east of I-65. This severe risk may not materialize, because storms may not develop overnight.
Confidence is much higher for severe weather Saturday afternoon into Saturday night. Saturday’s severe weather outlook was upgraded to a rare HIGH RISK, level 5/5 across central Mississippi and west-central Alabama early Friday afternoon. The rest of our area lies within a moderate level 4/5 severe risk. A tornado outbreak now looks likely across the deep south, some long-track and potentially violent.
