SLE Rodeo begins with parade in downtown Montgomery
The annual Southeastern Livestock Exposition Rodeo is one of the biggest events of the year in Montgomery, and it has arrived with a parade through downtown.
The rodeo started in 1958 at Garrett Coliseum and it has become a tradition lasting for generations.
The parade on Dexter Avenue is meant to welcome competitors back to town and to get folks excited to attend. Shows run from tonight through Sunday afternoon.
The parade has been rained out in recent years, but the weather was perfect this year for the 200 participants, some on horseback.
Rodeo organizers say despite the chance for strong storms on Saturday, the shows will go on. Garrett Coliseum is already designated as a storm shelter.
