150 students participate in Ability Games at Prattville YMCA

The Prattville YMCA hosted the Special Education Ability Games on Wednesday.

150 special education students from all over Autauga County  were able to participate in a variety of outdoor events that were designed for all abilities.

“We’re not worrying about disabilities, we were about their ability today,” stated Malcolm Dailey who is the Special Education Coordinator for 7th – 12th grade. “Inclusion with the Autauga County schools is a big deal and so we’re excited to have this opportunity to just bring in a multitude of students all together in one area.”

The athletes spent the day socializing and playing sports with their friends and peers in a supportive environment where they played a variety of games from kickball to basketball, and even gymnastics.

“We do it for the smiles and so that we give these kids opportunities, because otherwise they don’t get the opportunity to do a lot of these things and we want them to have the same opportunities as everybody else,” stated June Dorough who is the Director of Ability Sports and Events.

Baseball season for the Field of Dreams is coming up and you can sign up to a be a part of it at the Prattville YMCA.
