Millbrook police are warning of a phone scam that appears to be seeking personal information.

Police Chief P.K. Johnson said his department was contacted by one of the city’s independent drug stores, which had received phone calls from customers saying they had been contacted by an alleged company claiming to be conducting a customer survey on the drug store’s behalf.

Johnson said the drug store has not authorized anyone to conduct a survey.

He said the Millbrook Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit researched the phone number and found it has been connected with similar reports of fraudulent activity.

Johnson said the scam involves people contacting individuals, most often the elderly, in an attempt to get their personal information, which they will try to use for their own financial gain.

He said you should not share your personal identifying information, especially over the telephone or computer.

If you’ve done so, you should immediately check with your bank or other financial institutions for any unauthorized transactions, and report any fraudulent activity to local law enforcement authorities.
