Selma man charged with going on violent rampage through Dallas County
ACTION 8 WEST ALABAMA NEWSROOM:
A Selma man is behind bars facing charges that include murder and attempted murder, following a series of violent incidents across Dallas County.
Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum says 42-year-old Lorenzo Edwards shot his ex-wife and his son Wednesday night. Granthum said Edwards then drove to Valley Grande, where he opened fire on a couple out for a walk.
He says Edwards shot the man and ran him over with his vehicle before beating the woman with his gun after it jammed when he tried to shoot her.
Granthum said Edwards then beat an elderly woman to death because he saw her on her phone and thought she was calling 9-1-1.
Granthum said Edwards told investigators he went on the rampage because he was having problems with his family.
“He said he didn’t know what was going on, he just wanted to kill people. And he thanked us for catching him. He said, ‘I’m glad you caught me, because if not, you would’ve been working more bodies tonight.’ That was his exact words,” Granthum told Action 8 News.
Edwards is being held without bond. More charges are expected.
