1 killed, 1 injured in Autaugaville shooting
The Autauga County Sheriff’s Office says one person is dead and another injured in a shooting late Monday night.
Autauga County Sheriff Mark Harrell said around 11:40 p.m., 27-year-old Kelmen Merrell King, of Autaugaville, shot and killed a transgender woman, then shot an adult male in the head.
Sheriff Harrell said that during the investigation, it was believed that King attempted to carjack the victims when it turned deadly.
The adult male victim was taken to the hospital and later released.
Sheriff Harrell said King fled on foot and was later taken into custody by the sheriff’s office Tuesday morning.
King is in the Autauga County Jail and charged with murder and attempted murder.
