State lawmakers consider Community Pharmacy Relief Act

State lawmakers are considering a bill that could have a major impact on the quality of the healthcare available in rural areas of the state.

Waka Pharmacybill0401 SotvoThe Community Pharmacy Relief Act — benefits local independent drug stores — that provide people in rural areas with the medications they need.

The bill would provide pharmacies with a guaranteed minimum payment for every prescription.

“This bill is to ensure that pharmacies and local independent pharmacies in rural areas can stay open and afford to be open,” said Selma pharmacist Tim Williamson.

The Community Pharmacy Relief Act also known as Senate Bill 252 — has passed the House — and is currently in committee — in the state senate.
