First Responders prepare for World Police and Fire Games this summer
The World Police and Fire Games are taking place this summer in the Greater Birmingham area.
“We have 85 days left until the start of the games,” stated Birmingham Fire Chief Cory Moon. “As the whole city, in the city of Birmingham, we’re just excited to have everyone from around the world come visit our city. These games are about competition, but more importantly they’re about the comradery.”
First Responders from all over the world are volunteering as athletes to compete in more than 70 sports events like Police Pistol Combat, Toughest Competitor Alive, and the Ultimate Firefighter. They also compete in traditional individual and team events like Weightlifting and Basketball.
“The games will be a great opportunity for all first responders in the state of Alabama to show what we’re made of, especially of my hometown of Montgomery Alabama,” stated Eddie Gauntt who will be an athlete in the 2025 games. “Physical fitness is one of the biggest things when it comes to firefighting, which is what I represent, and we’re just glad to have the games here for economic development of the state and the city of Montgomery and Birmingham.”
The games are open to all current and retired law enforcement, fire services, and other first responders.
The games are open and free to the public to watch. They’re set to run from June 27 – July 6.
