Regional Medical Center Helping Spread Colon Cancer Awareness
In recognition of national Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, recognized each year in March, a Greenville hospital is taking steps to inform the public about the importance of maintaining a healthy colon.
Colon Cancer is the third most common type of cancer and second most common cause of cancer related deaths. That’s why Regional Medical Center is doing its part to better educate others about the signs of colon cancer.
Paying attention to the overall function of your colon is most important and is your first signal of alarm. Abdominal pain, abnormal fatigue or irregular bowel movements are all signs. But early detection is key.
Those without a family history of colon cancer are advised to begin regular colonoscopies at age 45. Those with a family history of colon cancer should begin screening 10 years prior to the age of their family member’s diagnosis.
