Severe storms possible Sunday with a damaging wind, tornado risk

Saturday was another mainly dry, very warm, and breezy day. Temperatures surged into the mid and upper 80s during the afternoon, 10° or more above average for early April in our area. Saturday night remains mainly dry and breezy while clouds increase. However, storms move into west Alabama early Sunday morning. These storms gradually move east across the rest of our area during the day.

Some storms may be strong to severe, capable of damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes. All of our area lies within a slight (level 2/5) severe risk Sunday. The risk for severe storms should end around 4PM in east Alabama. However, showers and storms continue Sunday night into Monday. Area rain totals of 2-4″, with locally higher amounts may lead to localized flooding. A flood watch continues until 7PM Monday for central Alabama.

Outside of lingering showers, Monday looks mainly cloudy and cool, with highs in the 60s at most. Clouds clear Monday night, low temperatures fall into the low 40s. Tuesday and Wednesday look mainly sunny, with highs in the low to mid 70s and lows in the 40s. A small chance for rain may return Thursday into Friday with a weak weather system swinging in from the north. However, showers look spotty those days at this time.

Next weekend looks pleasant, with sunshine and high temperatures in the upper 70s Saturday. Sunday looks warmer, with highs in the low 80s. The beginning of the following week may also begin mainly dry with sunshine, and high temperatures in the mid 80s that Monday and Tuesday.
