A 13-year-old boy has been hit by a car while walking to school in Millbrook this morning.

Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson said the boy had missed his school bus and was walking to school instead.

At around 7:27AM, he was hit in the 3700 block of Chapman Road. The boy was taken to a medical facility to be checked out.

Johnson said the boy was walking via Lilly Pad Place, which is in the 4800 block of Main Street, adjacent to Chapman Road. As the boy tried cross Chapman Road from the Lilly Pad Place parking lot entrance to Chapman Road, traffic in Chapman Road’s westbound lane was stopped. The victim crossed the westbound lane and was struck by a vehicle travelling in the eastbound lane.

“Apparently the young man failed to observe the oncoming traffic travelling east and the driver was unable to react in time to avoid making contact with the pedestrian. Fortunately, the vehicle, having just turned off of Main Street, was not travelling at speed at the time of the collision. The injuries sustained by the victim were described as non-life threatening,” Johnson said.
