The city of Selma hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday morning at the newly renovated “Shug” Jordan Track and Field at Memorial Stadium.
The upgrade means the track can now accommodate both high school and collegiate track and field competitions.
After the ribbon-cutting ceremony — Selma High School hosted a track meet at the facility.
“This track was not just resurfaced, said Selma Mayor James Perkins, Jr.
“We took the foundation out. And put everything back in the way it was supposed to.”
“This project is more than about just sports,” said State Senator Robert Stewart.
“It’s about quality of life. It’s about our children, it’s about our community.”
The renovation project was funded by a $750,000 dollar grant.
