YMCA gives students a real-life lesson in local government
Middle and high school students got a taste of local government as they took on different roles at Montgomery City Hall.
The YMCA’s Youth in Government program is a first-hand look at government and how it works. Students had the opportunity to prepare and debate city ordinances at City Hall.
They also heard from city officials and enjoyed the Youth Mayor’s election.
What’s it like to talk about issues?
“You have to research it, you have to back it up if you want to be a great speaker. And if you just put in the effort of knowing what you’re talking about, even if you mess up, your effort will come across in the end,” Youth Mayor Mere Morrison told Action 8 News.
