Alabama women’s basketball made program history Monday night as a record three players were selected in the WNBA Draft.
Sarah Ashlee Barker was chosen ninth overall by the Los Angeles Sparks, Aaliyah Nye went 13th to the Las Vegas Aces and Zaay Green was selected 37th by the Washington Mystics.
Birmingham native Barker, who set an Southeastern Conference NCAA Tournament record with 45 points in her final collegiate game, will join Kelsey Plum and Cameron Brink in Los Angeles. Alabama head coach Kristy Curry attended the draft with Barker and Nye.
The Aces selected Nye with the first pick of the second round. She’ll play under coach Becky Hammon, who has led Las Vegas to two WNBA championships in the past three seasons. Nye broke Alabama’s record for three-pointers in a season twice during her career.
Green, a third-round selection by the Washington Mystics, transferred to Alabama this season from Arkansas Pine-Bluff. The 6-foot-2 guard averaged 15.7 points and 5.0 assists per game for the Crimson Tide.
The draft success follows Alabama’s first consecutive second-round NCAA Tournament appearances since 1999.
