ALFA taking steps to move to a new location in Montgomery

Alfa Insurance is negotiating to purchase an office complex to move its home office to a new location in Montgomery.

The proposal would move the home offices of Alfa and the Alabama Farmers Federation to the Capitol Commerce Center off Interstate 85 at Exit 11.

“Technology and workforce changes have left about half our current space underutilized,” said Alfa and Federation President Jimmy Parnell. “As we considered possible locations for the home office, our priority was to provide an environment that supports innovation, collaboration and flexibility while displacing the fewest employees possible.”

Alfa says it went through site options before deciding to focus on this location. Parnell said the relocation underscores Alfa’s commitment to attracting top talent, promoting employee engagement and ensuring team members have the tools and spaces to serve customers. Alfa says the move recognizes the changing needs of an evolving workforce and aligns with its long-term vision for growth.

Parnell thanked the Montgomery County Commission and Chairman Doug Singleton, Montgomery City Council and Mayor Steven Reed and the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce for their cooperation in seeking to keep Alfa’s corporate headquarters in Montgomery.

“Alfa is proud to be an Alabama-based company with a rich history in Montgomery,” Parnell said. “Our goal is to continue investing in Montgomery by creating jobs and developing civic leaders who give back to the community. We appreciate the County Commission, City Council and Chamber of Commerce for recognizing the value Alfa brings to the River Region.”

During the next few weeks, Alfa will conduct due diligence with the goal of closing on the property by summer. Provided the purchase is finalized, the company anticipates a phased move-in following renovations.

Founded in 1946, Alfa (then Alabama Farm Bureau) occupied offices in three downtown Montgomery locations before moving to the East South Boulevard in 1958. The original 40,000-square-foot building was expanded four times, in 1968, 1972, 1986 and 1993. A state-of-the-art data center was added in 2006, bringing the total footprint to almost 500,000 square feet. Alfa plans to continue maintaining its current campus while seeking a buyer.
