Hundreds attend annual Easter egg hunt hosted by Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) — It was an egg-citing day at Auburn University at Montgomery on Saturday as hundreds of children gathered with baskets in hand for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office’s annual Easter egg hunt.
More than 300 goodie bags and 150 candy-filled gift baskets were handed out to children who found prize eggs. Some lucky participants also received bicycles. The Easter Bunny made a special appearance, posing for pictures and greeting attendees.
“That’s the community coming together to make sure that our future has a great event, and that’s what I always tell people,” said Sheriff Derrick Cunningham. “Our youth — 50% of our population — is 100% of our future, and if we don’t invest in our future, we won’t have a future. So as you can see today with the turnout, we’re investing, and the kids are excited and everybody left here with something.”
Staff from the sheriff’s office helped assemble the baskets and organized donations for the event.
