Girls on the Run Celebrates 10-Year Anniversary With 5K in Montgomery
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) — Hundreds of young women, families and supporters gathered Saturday at Cloverdale Park to celebrate a major milestone for Girls on the Run.
About 500 people participated in the 5K race and 10-year anniversary celebration, including 175 girls, 45 volunteer coaches, more than 150 volunteers, and 120 additional runners and walkers.
Since its founding in 2014, Girls on the Run has empowered girls to recognize their limitless potential through twice-weekly, 90-minute sessions. More than 2,000 girls from schools across Montgomery, Autauga, Lee, Dallas and Elmore counties have completed the program.
