Montgomery Rotary Club presents checks to three local charities

The Montgomery Rotary Club has presented big checks to three local charities.

The presentations were made at the club’s annual charity luncheon, which was held yesterday at the RSA Activity Center in downtown Montgomery.

The Cancer Wellness Foundation was presented with $5,000.

Churchill Academy was presented with a check of more than $9,500.

And MANE – Montgomery Area Non-Traditional Equestrians – was presented with $10,000.

The Montgomery Rotary Club said it found three critical areas of need in the River Region, focusing on youth in education, community wellness and the arts.

“We put out an RFP every year to all non-profits that are eligible and we had a record turnout this year, and we had over 50 applicants apply, so the Foundation Board had their work cut out for them this year, and we narrowed it down to three, which were the nonprofits all within the realm of what we support,” Montgomery Rotary Club President-elect Kimberly Baker said.

Troy University Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins was the keynote speaker at the luncheon.

“Rotary is a great demonstration of that perpetual gift. All of us benefit from the gifts of others. All of us do, you know, we go out and sit under an oak tree. We didn’t plant that tree, but we enjoy that tree. Somebody planted that tree, and I think it’s our obligation to plant trees for others, those who are yet to be here,” he said.

The Montgomery Rotary Club is made up of business, political and professional leaders. It is one of several Rotary Clubs in the city.

It was founded in 1913. Wes Littlefield is the president of the club for 2024-25.
